Windows 7, XP Mode, and Idiots that Hate Change.
Microsoft fearing that people who don’t like change won’t get with the program and upgrade to the modern os, is adding “XP” mode to windows 7. Looks like it will be a virtual machine setup that kicks in when you run old junk, but why waste the energy to emulate a 8 year old obsolete OS when they should just tell people to get with the program and accept change. After all since when does the fast changing computer industry coddle to legacy users. Hell I remember the days of 95 and 98 and stuff not working on 95 but would on 98 and people called that progress. But now its like we have some old legacy apps that aren’t even supported anymore but businesses still use as they hate to upgrade so they truck on with it. Then once they get all there data locked in some weird format thats not used anymore and their app no longer runs they get screwed. Grrr The stupid it burns!!!
Even Worse than Drunk Dialing
“Remember that text you shouldn’t have sent last night? We do”
Under the influence and texting… What has the world come to? Texts From Last Night posts portions of text message conversations sent in which are funny, random, etc. All they ask is that you add the area code in front of the message to label them. They also send their updates to Twitter. I’m following them @TFLN.
Yelp! Real People Real Awsome!
By now most of us have realized a couple of things, #1 Casa De Geeks is most awesome and #2 social networking sites have changed the web and our lives in a big way. This next site I am going to tell you about is no different, read the rest of this post and watch a video after the break. Read the rest of this entry »
News Aggregation: All the Rage Now
If you haven’t jumped on the news aggregation bandwagon yet, you’re behind the times, man! Every morning you visit the same handful of sites and read the headlines or posts that catch your interest… and you may not think this process is time consuming, but it is. A news aggregator web based or not gathers up all the newest articles from all your favorite sites (thus the name aggregator) using RSS feeds and you read them just like you would messages in your inbox. Other sites aggregate news on their main page and link back to the original article.

It seems now many in the news business are lashing out against aggregators claiming its unfair for sites to profit from displaying their news content. In most cases, these aggregator sites only display a short summary of the original article and even link back to it. What more do these people want? These aggregator sites are essentially driving traffic back to the main sites like Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Do these news giants just not get it? In order to have a significant web presence, you want others to promote your content and send readers your way.
The most hypocritical part about these claims is that WSJ, NY Times, and many other news giants also aggregate news themselves from other news sources! Isn’t that what news is all about? Getting the word out to the masses, having a large audience? C’mon folks, get a clue!
George Carlin on Earth Day
Today is Earth Day and while most of me wants to join in on the idea that we humans need to clean up our act a little for a better environment, I am reminded by my hero, George Carlin, that the age of humans on earth has been minuscule in comparison to the rest of the Earth’s life. Earth will live on regardless of what we humans do. The condition in which Earth continues is another story. If it continues without humans, then perhaps it is just what the doctor ordered.
Twitter Wars: Ashton Kutcher vs CNN
If you don’t already know, many Twitter users often link to friends’ Twitter pages and post something like “help my buddy @so-and-so get to 1,000 followers!”. That’s all fine and dandy, I do, however, find it even more amusing when two Twits decide to battle it out for the most followers. Actor Ashton Kutcher decided to challenge CNN for the most followers claiming he would ding-dong-ditch Ted Turner if he reached 1,000,000 followers. Here is Larry King’s video response:
I love King’s last words, “CNN will bury you! We will defeat you, we will”.
Spending Money on Science vs Spending Money on Starving People
I hear this all the time, usually from people who have no interest in leaving their home state or houses for that matter. The issue is usually “Why are we spending money on abstract science or even practical science when so many people on the planet are starving to death”. The people who pose the question probably think that you should say “oh spend it on the people”. I for one say spend it on science. Now before you flame and say “How could you be so cold?”, think.
