Just Because its Natural Doesn’t Mean it Won’t Kill You!
My opinion of natural health supplements has always been that they might actually help and are natural so if they don’t they’re probably harmless. The most harm I could imagine them doing was for people to delay treatment taking useless stuff and having their condition get much worse. You know kind of like the nutters that have cancer, but instead of going to the doctor they try homeopathy, weird berries, and or praying. Then they die from something that probably could have been treated. You’re never going to get away from that kind of stupid even if they didn’t have health supplement stores people would just wonder into the woods to munch on mandrake root to cure their cancer or whatever. Jenny McCarthy thinks she might have been wrong on the vaccine thing!
When Jenny McCarthy set out on her foolish and unholy crusade to stop people from vaccinating they’re kids most people could understand where she was coming from. After all her son was diagnosed with autism shortly after he got his vaccines. Read the rest of this entry »
Personnel Heads Up Displays When?
Unlike most things you see in Sci-Fi movies one intriguing and very useful piece of tech might be closer than I previously thought. No I’m not talking about flying cars or killer robots. I’m talking about a personal heads up display. Something you wear as a pair of glasses or contacts that can display things like a GPS map or text messages. The University of Washington has made several contact lens style HUD’s that they’ve been testing and will hopefully develop into something that can be commercially made. Read the rest of this entry »
Homeopathy Loses Funding in the UK’s National Health System.
For those of you that don’t know what Homeopathy is let me enlighten you. Homeopathy is when you take medicine and dilute it so much that the medicine is no longer present but the remaining water “remembers” the medicine was there and can heal people. Ok ok stop laughing some people will believe anything. Read the rest of this entry »
George Carlin on Earth Day
Today is Earth Day and while most of me wants to join in on the idea that we humans need to clean up our act a little for a better environment, I am reminded by my hero, George Carlin, that the age of humans on earth has been minuscule in comparison to the rest of the Earth’s life. Earth will live on regardless of what we humans do. The condition in which Earth continues is another story. If it continues without humans, then perhaps it is just what the doctor ordered.
Spending Money on Science vs Spending Money on Starving People
I hear this all the time, usually from people who have no interest in leaving their home state or houses for that matter. The issue is usually “Why are we spending money on abstract science or even practical science when so many people on the planet are starving to death”. The people who pose the question probably think that you should say “oh spend it on the people”. I for one say spend it on science. Now before you flame and say “How could you be so cold?”, think. Miami Couple Clones Pet Dog
A couple from Miami spent a whopping $155,000 at an auction to have one of their dogs cloned in South Korea. That’s an expensive pet! I wonder if the dog can be AKC registered. The couple are, of course, happy with their new pet as he is just like the original. However, now the biotech companies who cloned the dog are pondering the viability & profitability of cloning pets for pet owners who have fat cash to throw around. A representative for the Humane Society has already put in their two cents as well, claiming that the ability to clone pets will just dissuade wealthy pet owners from adopting from shelters. The couple in this story has donated to the Humane Society though. Don’t worry Fox, I’m not going to clone Duchess – even if I had the money!
Stealth or is it?
So next time you’re sitting at home watching some poorly made TV movie portraying stealth aircraft as invincible platforms that fell enemy aircraft from the sky by droves, or the military saying their new stealth widget will totally pwn, just remember, real life is a little more complex than what they say. After all, Col. Dani Zoltan in the Yugoslav 250thmissile brigade took out an F – 16 and the F-117 Nighthawk with a vintage SA-3 Surface to air missile battery that entered service in the 60′s.
