WalMart Plays Cowboys and Indians
The following pictures were taken at a Walmart in Oklahoma City. The first depicts two American Indians on horseback with spears raised overlooking their land and grazing buffalo. The next picture is a large panoramic view of early American settlers wearing cowboy hats with their covered wagon stampeding onto the land. The last picture shows a more modern Caucasian woman with a cowboy hat riding a horse in the foreground and a city skyline in the background. The last picture is captioned “Oklahoma City”.
Great history lesson, Walmart! Really. The natives were just chillin out, tending to their buffalo when a stampede of immigrants came along, pillaged their lands, and built a concrete jungle on it. I hope all those people who want to deport all illegal immigrants take a long hard look at this and think about how their own ancestors came to call this country their home.
Spending Money on Science vs Spending Money on Starving People
I hear this all the time, usually from people who have no interest in leaving their home state or houses for that matter. The issue is usually “Why are we spending money on abstract science or even practical science when so many people on the planet are starving to death”. The people who pose the question probably think that you should say “oh spend it on the people”. I for one say spend it on science. Now before you flame and say “How could you be so cold?”, think. The problems with sercrets… is that they don’t stay that way.
January 5, 1988 in a remote and very cold plain in Siberia 3 men watch in anticipation at a steel tower 10 miles away with a steel ball on top. They’re standing in a hastily made concrete bunker next to another that is filled with top soviet military brass and assorted government officials. The three men, Sergei Gaius,
Oleg Baltar and Ruslan Alexandrov, stand nervously as a clock slowly counts down. Once it reaches zero the steel ball explodes with a rather small fireball throwing bits of metal and other materials around in a 30 foot circle, otherwise unimpressive. The three men sigh in relief and the generals run over and jubilantly congratulate the men. “With this the arrogant west’s omnipotence is finished, you’ll receive the order of Lenin for this.” A general proclaims.
